GAME PREVIEW CAPSULE
Snow Canyon (1-1) at PARK CITY (0-2)
WARRIORS
Classification: 3A, Region 9
Coach: Jay Graft (eighth year, 33-37 overall)
Offense: Spread, pro-set
Last week: Beat Shadow Ridge, Nev. 43-16
Players to watch: DB Jace Graft played a great game last week and even had a pick-six. QB Mason Smith and RB Mitch Phillips both ran the ball well and each topped 100 yards. Establishing the run will be job one again this week on the road.
PPG: 27.0
PAPG: 17.5
Trend: Warriors fans have to be relieved to have that seven-game losing streak over with. A two-game win streak will happen if the running game is successful like it was against Shadow Ridge. Coach Graft loves to run the ball, so if it’s working, they’ll keep doing it.
MINERS
Classification: 3A, Region 10
Coach: Kai Smalley (third year, 9-14 overall)
Offense: Spread
Last week: Lost to Stansbury 42-7
Players to watch: RB Alex Boyle is the top rusher on this team, but truthfully, the Miners have struggled to move the ball (7 total points in two games) and that means the offensive line is getting beat at the point of contact. They really need guys like Konner Anderson to step up.
PPG: 3.5
PAPG: 47.5
Trend: The once proud Miners got beat by Spanish Fork 53-0 and Stansbury 42-7. The run-based spread Park City uses has not worked against the bigger Dons or the faster Stallions. Snow Canyon may not be at a level of those two teams, but the Warriors are athletic and that should cause concern for Park City.
GAME OUTLOOK
Snow Canyon only won two games last year, but lost several close contests. They should be able to dominate the Miners, though if PC can hang in the game, home field could help them eke one out. Not likely though.
