CEDAR CITY – An off-duty, volunteer Cedar City firefighter was killed in New Harmony on Thursday when he was electrocuted.
The Washington County Sheriff’s Office initially reported that it was responding to a reported electrocution in New Harmony Thursday afternoon in which Kevin Scott Smith, the volunteer firefighter, was involved.
Though his name was not released at first, Smith was identified in a statement from Cedar City Fire Chief Paul Irons.
A spokesman for the Cedar City Fire Department could not confirm particular details of the incident, but did relate that Smith was electrocuted, and another man shocked, when the extended boom of their truck came into contact with power lines.

Cedar City Fire Department is mourning the loss of a firefighter killed in an off-duty industrial accident while working for his employer on Thursday, Aug. 16, in New Harmony.
Kevin Scott Smith will be honored by his wife, three young children, and other family and friends at a viewing scheduled for Tuesday, Aug. 21, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Greens Lake Chapel located at 1120 W Greens Lake Drive in Cedar City, Utah. The funeral is scheduled for Wednesday, Aug. 22, at 1 p.m. at the same location.
The Fire Department has organized a Memorial Fund at State Bank of Southern Utah for Kevin Smith for anyone that wants to assist the Smith Family.

Such poignant insight but without any sensitivity or empathy for the co-workers, family members, or the victim of this accident. Murat, may all your actions continue to be perfect and may you not fall victim to any carelessness. Karma may come full circle. Sometimes what you say and how you say it is very selfish and nearsighted…and in this case, offensive.
