Body of missing woman found at Lake Powell

LAKE POWELL – At approximately 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 8, a boater in the Bullfrog area found the body of a 21-year-old female floating face down near a popular swim beach in Croppy Cove near the Bullfrog Marina.

Witnesses said that the female had gone to the beach with a second 21-year-old female around 3 p.m., with intentions of returning by 6 p.m. At this time, the second female is missing.

A Utah Department of Public Safety helicopter is at the scene to search from the air, and the National Park Service, Lake Powell dive team, is en route to the scene to search near the area where the first individual was located. They should arrive around 4 p.m. this afternoon.

Both females are from Turkey and were in the area working for the summer. Efforts are under way to notify the families in their home country. For this reason, their names are not being released at this time.

No foul play is expected at this time, but investigators are treating the incident as a homicide until it can be ruled out.

The search is a joint effort between the Kane County Sheriff’s Office and the National Park Service.

Submitted by Kane County Emergency Services.

Sad situation and my condolences to the family and friends of the young lady. Murat, sounds like we need to wait for the investigation to continue before you begin to share your speculations. Really surprised you didn’t comment that it sounded like “fowl” play to you…

I won’t wait for anything to offer up my speculation.

Sure wish you would. You’re wearing out your armchair. Maybe you could volunteer for a charity organization to ease the suffering of people in crisis. With your background in sociology, you’d be of great help.
