SOUTHERN UTAH – Multiple fires were triggered by lightning strikes over the weekend.
Many small fires on Utah Hill merged to form the West Mountain Fire, which is 50 percent contained as of Monday evening, while the Pyramid Fire near Enterprise has been 80 percent contained.
West Mountain Fire
The West Mountain Fire has grown to 2,450 acres and remains at 0 percent containment.
The fire began Saturday evening and is a combination of many smaller fires triggered by lightning. The blaze is located on the west side of West Mountain, near Utah Hill in Washington County which consists of steep and rocky terrain.
The nearest structures threatened by the fire are radio towers on top of Utah Hill.
So far no injuries have been reported and no roads have been shutdown.
Resources on hand for the fire include: nine fire engines, one water tender, a hand crew, two squads, one air attack platform, one Type III helicopter, one Type II helicopter, one Type I Helicopter, and various overhead. Approximately 95 personnel are assigned to the fire.
Pyramid Fire
ENTERPRISE – The Pyramid Fire is located northwest of Enterprise and was also started by lightning Sunday afternoon. Firefighters are working to meet containment objectives and mopping up the fire perimeter. No forward progression of the fire has occurred today.
The fire is currently 51 acres and is 80 percent contained.
Resources on hand included around 25 individuals and five fire engines
No injuries have been reported, no roads have been closed, no structures are presently threatened, and no evacuations have been called.
