Baboon Fire grows 1,700 acres from flare-up

MINERSVILLE – The Baboon Fire is now 50 percent contained and has added  1,700 acres since its initial containment last week.

Nick Howell of Color County Interagency Fire Management said an investigation into new fire activity completed Saturday. Findings suggest it was a flare-up of the former Baboon Fire. The fire now stands at 20,732 acres. The blaze was initially started by lightning on July 13.

Currently no structures are threatened, no evacuations have been issued, and no road closures are in effect. No injuries have been reported thus far either.

Resources involved in fighting the fire include: one Type III helicopter, one Type I helicopter, one air attack platform, 12 fire engines, two hand crews, two dozers, one water tender, and various overhead. Approximately 100 people have been assigned to the fire.
