HURRICANE – One person is dead and another injured after a rollover at the sand dunes at Sand Hollow State Park Monday.

Laura Melling, Sand Hollow Park manager, confirmed that one adult male had been killed while a passenger was transported to Dixie Regional Medical Center after their ATV rolled in the dune area of the park. They were the only two involved in the incident which occurred shortly before 4 p.m. Monday.

Park rangers responded to the scene, and a Life Flight helicopter was called in to transport the injured passenger from the dunes to a waiting ambulance.  Melling said the passenger has non-life threatening injuries, but may be in the hospital for a few days.

Melling was unable to give exact information on the accident as an investigation is currently underway. The family of the deceased driver has yet to be contacted, she said.

This story will be updated as information becomes available.
