Rape reported on St. George bike path

ST. GEORGE – A woman was attacked and raped while jogging Wednesday. Police are currently seeking the suspect involved in the incident.

At 4:30 p.m., Wednesday, the St. George Police Communications Center received information regarding a sexual assault.  A 25-year-old female stated she was jogging on the bike path and was headed south toward the tunnel that runs beneath Sunset Boulevard when she was attacked and knocked to the ground.

The victim told investigators she was raped during the attack. The victim managed to break free from the assailant and contact a family member.  The victim was transported by this family member to Dixie Regional Medical Center for medical attention.

The victim was able to provide the following description of the suspect:

  • Caucasian male
  • Approximately 5 foot 8 inches tall, medium build
  • Brown or Hazel eyes
  • Wearing a black bandana on his head
  • Wearing a black short sleeve shirt and black pants

Officers and Detectives met the victim at DRMC. Patrol officers also canvassed the area surrounding the bike path, including the businesses and residential areas around the path.

Information has been obtained from the canvass and a follow up is under way. Several businesses are reviewing their surveillance tapes in an attempt to locate video of the suspect.
