HURRICANE – One man is in critical condition following a three-vehicle accident in Hurricane that left three others with minor injuries Tuesday.

The critically injured 78-year-old male and his 67-year-old wife were stopped at a red light at the intersection of 1150 W. State St. when their vehicle was rear-ended by another car driven by a 70-year-old man. The impact forced their vehicle into the intersection where it T-boned a third vehicle driven by an 80-year-old woman.

Three of the four people injured were transported to Dixie Regional Medical Center. Both lanes of eastbound traffic on State Route 9 were shut down while the accident was cleared. Traffic moving eastbound was diverted onto 1150 West for nearly an hour. All three cars were towed from the scene.

A Washington County Sheriff’s Deputy who happened to be at the intersection immediately assisted the victims. Two Hurricane Police officers responded to the accident as well as another county deputy and two ambulances.

This press release was provided by the Hurricane Police Department.
