ST.GEORGE – The Tenth Annual Ruckus at Red Rock, ” the most Spectacular Shooting Event Ever Held” invites ya’all to come and watch Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The cowboys and cowgirls have come from all over the western states and are dressed in authentic turn-of-the-century western wear with guns and names to match.
Spokane Colton, 81, is here shooting with husband Colt Colton and their three grandchildren, Easy Money, Mercy Less, and J. P. Flick.
“I have 23 grand children,” Spokane said, “and 17 of them have come out and participated with us at different events during the past 12 years we have been doing this.”
Some of the guns you will see being used are side by side coach guns, old Winchester models 73 and 78, plus the gunslinger’s favorite, Colt 45 pistols.
There are six main stages with over 135 shooters. Then a six-person team event followed by a head to head top gun shoot-off.
“If you hang around after the event and the cowboys aren’t too tired you might even get to shoot some old western guns,” Match Director Second Fiddle Soup, aka Candy McKay, said.
Please remember to bring glasses to protect your eyes and ear plugs to protect your ears.
The event does have some earplugs on hand, but a small donation is requested.
“It’s a great way to spend a few hours outdoors in the old southwest,” said the Larson family.
There are a few vendors selling everything from clothes to saddles and guns.
Food, drinks, and ice-cream are also on hand at very reasonable prices. Burger or chicken sandwich, potato salad, chips, dessert, and a drink for $8.00, also Sub-Zero Ice cream has a booth and they use liquid nitrogen to freeze the cream right there on the spot. A nice serving is only $4.
This event is being held at the Southern Utah Sport Shooting Range, just past the race track and Washington County fair grounds.
