ST. GEORGE – The Utah Jazz have now lost five of their last seven games, including two games at home to teams they were ahead of in the standings; this, after a 105-103 loss to the Phoenix Suns last night.
The Jazz trailed by as many as 10 points in the final quarter but fought back to tie the game with 25 seconds left.
Steve Nash came down and hit a jumper with 15 seconds left to give the Suns the lead back. The Jazz answered with a bucket of their own to tie the game back up with just less than 10 seconds left.
Once again Nash hit a big shot! Nash made the go ahead shot with 1.7 seconds remaining.
The Jazz tried to answer with a C.J. Miles 3-pointer, but it was short; and by the time Paul Millsap grabbed the miss and tipped the ball in, the clock had gone to zeros and the game was over.
The Jazz now fall a game-and-a-half out of the eighth and final playoff spot.
The Jazz have about a days to shake this game off before their next game, April 6, against Golden State.
Millsap led the way with a game-high 25 points while Miles added 22 points. Al Jefferson chipped in 16 points and Gordon Hayward helped out with a double-double, scoring 20 points and corralling 10 rebounds.
The Jazz were missing their starting point guard, Devin Harris, and it showed in the starting lineup. Early Watson got the start and only scored two points while handing out five assists.
The Jazz bench was a nonfactor with no players in double figures. The Suns bench outscored the Jazz bench 46-20.
The Jazz have performed badly at making and defending the 3-point line all season. In a game that was decided by two points the 3-point shot becomes very important.
The Suns made more 3-pointers then the Jazz attempted. The Suns went 13-31 from deep shooting, 41.9 percent for the game. The Jazz, on the other hand, finished the game 3-9 from behind the arc for 33.3 percent.
