ST. GEORGE – A warrant service on three persons erupted into a standoff with St. George Police at the Coronada Inn, 559 East St. George Blvd. this morning.

Capt. James Van Fleet said, “The the county came this morning right abut 10 a.m. … to serve those warrants, they took two into custody and the third, a female, ran into the back bedroom and barricaded herself.”

Van Fleet said the woman then told the officers that she was armed, at which point they all backed out of the room and called in the department’s SWAT team.

“SWAT negotiators worked with her,” Van Fleet said, “ultimately to get her to give up.”

A loud commotion was audible and SWAT emerged from the hotel room with a woman in handcuffs.

Van Fleet said that there was no problem with the two men arrested.

“We’ve had (the two men) in custody so we could ask them questions about her,” Van Fleet said. “They’ve been on scene with us the entire time and now all three* will get transferred out to Washington County Jail.”

Van Fleet did not know whether the three involved were living at the Coronada Inn in a permanent situation or just staying overnight.

* Persons arrested are presumed innocent until found guilty in a court of law.
