WASHINGTON CITY – Washington City Fire Department was dispatched at right about 5 p.m. to 1995 South Paloma, in Washington City, to fight a structural fire.
“It is an occupied home but there was no one there at the time,” said Ed Kantor, Public Information Officer for Washington City Public Safety. “There were no injuries to persons or other living beings.”
Kantor said that there is significant damage but remains under investigation as to the cause and origin. He said he doesn’t know how anyone could have information as to the cause at this point; it would have to be speculation.
That said, Darci Clark gives her eyewitness testimony: “I was there from the moment smoke started billowing out,” she said. “A neighbor who is a volunteer firefighter said the owner said he left a fire burning. I got the information there. The road was closed until we left at 6:30 p.m.”
“Firefighters are still working on it, they’re controlling it,” Kantor said around 6:30 p.m. Fire crews will remain on scene for some time to address possible flare-ups and insure the scene is secure.
St. George Fire Department did assist in the effort; it “sent two apparatus and several firefighters,” said Kantor.
There are no main road closures but there is some restricted access in the immediate area. Kantor urged the public to steer clear of the area as the incident continues to be addressed.

St. George did more than just “assist.” St. George had 4 engines there, 1 of which was a ladder truck that this particular fire could not have been fought without! Makes you wonder when Washington City will realize a fully staffed fire department needs to be a priority!!!!
