Tigers too much for Panthers

HURRICANE – The Hurricane Tigers improve to 6-2 in region play with a 50-42 win over the Pine View Panthers. The Panthers fall to 1-7 in region play.

The Tigers were too much for the Panthers inside, getting 12 points each from Boston Gubler and Colton Marshall. Taylor Parker added 11 points for the Tigers who used a 13-2 second quarter run to open up the game.

The Tigers forced 24 Panther turnovers on the night. The Panthers never got their young stars, sophomore Jack Bangerter and freshman Kody Wilstead, going. Bangerter was under constant pressure from the Tiger defense and never got his shot rolling. Wilstead, on the other hand, was in foul trouble for the first three quarters and was on the bench most of the game.

The Panthers did not have anyone in double figures but got nine points from Bangerter and eight points and 10 rebounds from Mitch Godfrey.

The play of the game was not the Marshall dunk over Bangerter either, it was the three-point buzzer beater by Pine View’s Skyler Marshall.

The Panthers will continue to fight on Friday night when they host rival Dixie High Flyers at 7 p.m.

The Tigers host Cedar on Friday night at 7 p.m. in a game that will mean a lot to the playoffs and determine whether or not the Tigers have a chance at first place in the region.
