The competition process began last November where 114 local residents, of all ages, auditioned to compete in the Dixie’s Got Talent event. A volunteer panel chose 35 of these contestants to return for a second performance, with a new number, to secure their spot in the final 15 chosen.
Next week’s final performance will determine who will be the ultimate winner of Dixie’s Got Talent 2012.
The winners from last year’s event received a complimentary recording sessions with Spiral Studios said Misti Cain, fundraising chair for Dixie State College Scholarship Association. She also said the winners receive a three night stay at the Marriott, a bag from Mega Pro and a gift certificate from Pizza Factory.
The cost to attend the event is $10 per person in advance and $12 at the door. To purchase tickets call 674-5200.
“All money donated goes to the needs-based scholarships at Dixie State College for a full ride scholarship, which is awarded through an application process:” Cain said. “The applicant explains why [he or she] qualifies for the scholarship. Then each person goes through the scrutiny of the board members like a job interview.”
Last year the board awarded 14 scholarships to needful DSC students through the money donated from the Dixie’s Got Talent event.
“The winners from last year have already had professional paying performing opportunities,” Cain said. “People do not realize what it is for and how it can help the talent showcase their talent.”
