WASHINGTON CITY – The Washington City Fire Department responded to a fire in Washington City Monday.

Dispatch received a fire call around 11:37 a.m. concerning a fire that had erupted in a parked motorhome at 872 Essex St. A fire crew arrived on the scene at 11:41 a.m.

Fire Division Chief Jim Guynn said there was a well developed fire within the motorhome when the firefighter arrived. After battling the blaze for an hour, the fire was put out by 12:49 p.m.

Guynn said the owner of the RV was the one who first noticed the fire and called 911. He noticed smoke coming out of the motorhome and discovered the spreading flames inside after opening a door.

Despite efforts to save the motorhome, Guynn said it could not be salvaged.

“We believed it to be a complete loss,” he said.

Property damages are estimated at $180,000. There were no injuries involved, and no other vehicles or structures were damaged in the fire.

The investigation into the fire is ongoing.
