Ivins man arrested for stealing Coins for Kids donation boxes

ST. GEORGE – A 36-year-old Ivins man was arrested for the alleged theft of two Coins for Kids donation boxes. Due to prior theft convictions, the counts were elevated to felonies.

On Nov. 25 and 28, the St. George Police Department responded to two Maverik stores locations in St. George. The Maverik stores on 700 E St. George Blvd., Dixie Downs and Sunset Blvd. reported that they had surveillance video of a suspect entering both stores and taking the Coins for Kids donation boxes. The approximate value of money taken was less than $100.

During the investigation and review of the surveillance footage, a Maverik employee recognized the suspect as a regular customer to the store.  Detectives then began looking into the man.

On Jan. 5, detectives discovered the suspect had been booked into the Washington County Jail on unrelated charges.  Detectives met with the man and charged him with two counts of theft.

* Persons accused are presumed innocent unless found guilty in a court of law.

If you look at his picture on the “arrests” page, the guy looks cracked out of his mind, and getting gas is probably the least of his concerns. “Gassed” is more like it.
