ST. GEORGE – Area high school students were recognized as students of the month by the St. George Exchange Club
Eight students, one each representing their particular high school, were honored for their scholastic achievements, community involvement, and leadership at their respective school for the month of December.
Neil Smith, a member of the St. George Exchange Club who worked with the selected students, said each is chosen for the honor by student counselors from each school. Recipients of the award are given a $300 scholarship, with the possibility of becoming student of the year. The student of the year receives scholarship to the college of his or her choice.
“It’s one of the vital programs of the Exchange Club,” Smith said.
The St. George Exchange Club is a local chapter of the National Exchange Club which exist in all 50 states and Puerto Rico. According to the organization’s website, the Exchange Club is “America’s Service Club.” Club members seek to improve their communities through programs of service in Americanism, youth activities and community service. The club also heavily supports efforts in child abuse prevention.
The St. George Exchange Club was established in 1974.
