ST. GEORGE – Residents and visitors on Bluff Street and the Black Hill area were surprised to see police officers and the Washington County Area Task Force in pursuit of a suspect this evening.

Witnesses told St. George News they watched police with assault rifles as they set up a perimeter to find a man who had run from police.

Task Force Lt. Dave Moss said officers have been watching a couple homes in St. George to find a person of interest in a drive-by shooting that took place Tuesday in Mesquite, Nev.

Moss said a Mesquite detective called St. George and asked them to be on the lookout for the man. Local detectives watched three people leave one of the homes under surveillance and pulled them over on a traffic violation.

The driver was not the person of interest in the drive-by shooting, but fled from police. Moss said the man has been positively identified and does have other warrants for his arrest. Two others in the vehicle were arrested on charges of obstruction of justice and probation violations.

The driver led police on a foot pursuit from 900 S Bluff to the Black Hill area and the Crystal Inn. Moss said the man escaped and officers will continue to search for him.

In the meantime, officers are still searching Washington County for the person of interest in the drive-by shooting.

What is the “Black Hill area”? Confusing considering the black hill stretches from Hilton Drive north to Sunset Blvd.
