World record sought at National Adoption Awareness event in St. George

ST. GEORGE – November is National Adoption Awareness Month, and the Utah Foster Care Foundation and Premiere Adoption have planned an event Nov. 19 at Vernon Worthen Park to celebrate.

This inaugural event is titled “Celebrating Families Through Adoption” and will be held from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. to join all those who have been touched by adoption in any way.

“[The event is] a celebration for families who are created through adoption,” Debbie Hofhines, Utah Foster Care Foundation southwest region area Representative, said.

Besides bringing families together to celebrate adoption, the even coordinators hope to break a world record at the event by having the most adoptive families in one location at the same time.

There will be refreshments served, a bounce house and climbing wall for the kids. Also a juvenile court judge will be there to represent one of the many branches of the adoption process. A large canvas will be available for all attendants to place a painted handprint and sign to signify their attendance.

“[The display] will represent how many people we have at the event so we can set a record to improve next year,” Hofhines said.

Everyone touched by adoption is encouraged to join this celebration of families. To learn more about foster care and adoption call the St. George UFCF office at 656-8065 or visit  www.utahfostercare.org.
