Casting call: ‘High School Musical’ Auditions

SANTA CLARA – Spotlight Performing Arts Center is excited to announce it will be holding auditions for the upcoming production, “High School Musical.”

The Spotlight Musical Theater Company is a children’s program for children ages 5 years and up. Teens and children of all ages and ability levels are encouraged to attend auditions on Nov. 12 from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at Spotlight Performing Arts Center, 2309 Santa Clara Drive in Santa Clara.

The program will run for 15 weeks and only costs $150, which includes 15 weeks of rehearsals, classes and a script. Performances of High School Musical will be held in March, 2012.

The show follows Gabriella and the ‘brainiacs,’ Troy and the ‘jocks,’ and Sharpay, Ryan and the ‘thespians,’ as they trouble through high school cliques—not without musical numbers, of course. Music includes “We’re all in this Together,” “Bop to the Top,” “Getcha Head in the Game,” and others.

The Spotlight Musical Theater Company has been in existence since 1996 and opened a location in Santa Clara in 2010.  The company has performed over 180 performances in the past 15 years; it’s current production of “Beauty and the Beast” will be performed this weekend, Nov. 5 and 6; other recent shows include “Aladdin” (performed June 2011), and “Grease, Jr.” (performed February 2011).  Each cast ranges in age and ability levels.

“Ms. Teresa,” as the children call her, is the owner and director of Spotlight Performing Arts Center; she has been teaching and directing for over 25 years. She is also the director of the “Spotlight Entertainers” who sing regularly at Tuacahn Center for the Arts and other community events all over St. George.

Spotlight offers classes in ballet, tap, jazz, pointe, tumbling, musical theater and vocal performance.
