CEDAR CITY – The coin flip to determine the No. 2, 3 and 4 seeds in Region 9 football was held in the fourth quarter of the Cedar vs. Desert Hills football game, instead of after the game as expected.
Cedar dominated Desert Hills 48-20, causing a three-way tie between those two schools along with Dixie for second place, making the coin flip necessary. The three schools finished Region with a 4-2 record. Hurricane took the No. 1 seed with an undefeated season.
The Desert Hills Thunder finished the overall season with a 6-3 record and will have a first-round home game against Park City (3-2). The Thunder will have a week to recover from their injuries before playing Park City at home. Park City took third in Region 10 but had an overall record of 3-7 and may prove to be an easy team to beat.
Cedar, who took the No. 3 seed, finished the overall season with a 4-5 record. They will travel to Judge, the No. 2 seed in Region 10. Judge finished the season 7-3 overall but only lost one Region 10 game when they went against Juan Diego for the Region 10 championship.
Dixie finished with the No. 4 seed and finished with an overall record of 7-2. The Flyers will face three-time state champions and six-time Region 10 champions Juan Diego in their first game in the state tournament on Friday, October 28, at 4 p.m.
Juan Diego finished 9-1 overall, but will still prove to be a difficult team to beat after pummeling Judge for the Region 10 championship.
Hurricane will host Wasatch on either Friday or Saturday, October 28 or 29. Wasatch finished 5-5 overall, but took fourth in Region 10.
