Southern Utah chefs to give cooking classes

SOUTHERN UTAH – Some of Southern Utah’s premier chefs will share a few of their cooking secrets at the next Cook and Taste Event, October 7-8.

The event which is hosted by Artful Edibles and Alive! Utah has asked chefs from Parallel 88 in Springdale, Ninja Japanese Steakhouse  in Cedar City and Garden House in Cedar City to be part of this event of culinary classes and tastings

“All of the instructors were asked to participate because we had requests from past event participants for these classes,” said Amani from Artful Edibles.

Jeff Crossland is the award winning executive chef and owner of the fine dining restaurant Parallel 88 in Springdale. Owner and Chef Jeff Crosland, is classically French-trained from Le Cordon Bleu Western Culinary Institute and has been in the restaurant industry for more than 15 years. Parallel 88 was voted Best Restaurant in St. George and Southwest Utah by the Salt Lake Magazine Dining Awards for the past three years.

Crossland will demo the art of cooking fish and discuss how to purchase, pick and cook the best fish. In addition he will share ideas on making salsas from local food growers. Lunch and demo is from Saturday, October 8, noon to 1:30 p.m. and is only $25.

Sushi by Ninja Japanese Steakhouse’s sushi chef promises to be a favorite as the class Participants will be guided through making their own sushi roll and then will demo the techniques in making some of Ninja’s sushi customer favorites. This class will be Saturday, October 8, from 2 to 4 p.m. at Ninja.

Jeff Gayson, executive chef of Garden House returns to the Cook and Taste with a new class on how to make sauces like marsala, au poivre and more. Gayson’s previous soup classes were a favorite at the last two Cook and Tastes. His class is Friday, October 7, from 3 to 5 p.m.

Just in time for the holidays, Amani Kaminska co-owner of the catering company Artful Edibles will join Alive! Utah editor in teaching a class on pies. Amani is well known for her pastries and delicacies and she will be sharing some of her favorite pie recipes, while Rachelle teaches pie crust techniques. The pie class will be held Saturday, October 8th from 5 to 7 p.m.

As a special addition, there is one non-cooking class for this event. Amanda Hill, award winning interior designer will hold a class on Styling the Table. She will share ideas on how to deck out your holiday tables on a budget as well as guide class members in a stylish DIY project. Her class will be held Saturday, October, 8, from 9 to 11 a.m.
