ARCATA, Calif. – Senior quarterback Mike Proulx threw for four touchdowns and senior running back Lyndon Rowells topped the century mark on the ground, leading the Humboldt State Lumberjacks to a 56-27 home win over Dixie State College on Saturday at the Redwood Bowl.

The Lumberjacks (4-0, 3-0 GNAC) racked up 591 yards of total offense to remain unbeaten in league play. DSC’s Red Storm amassed 370 yards in defeat, moving to 1-4 on the year and 1-3 in the GNAC.

Humboldt scored on its first two possessions, jumping out to an early 14-0 lead. Proulx connected with his tight end Alex Hiebert for a 2-yard strike and hit his main tight end target, Chris Bolt from 13 yards in the second drive.
 The Red Storm responded by gambling on fourth-and-goal from the 1-yard line. Jesse Ence (11 rushes for 30 yards, 3 catches for 51 yards) cut inside tackle and found the end zone to make the score 14-7 after the first quarter.
 
After a Jameson Schultz punt backed HSU to its own goal line, Proulx led the Jacks 99 yards down the field, hitting Bolt for a second score.

Stefan Cantwell entered the game in the second quarter and captained DSC within a touchdown. A wide-open Joe Dun Duncan hauled in a 53-yard catch and run for a touchdown closing the HSU advantage to 21-14.
 
Chris Miles’ reception from 11 yards closed the half. Humboldt led 28-14 paced by Proulx’s 315 yards and four first-half scores.

Rowells, who was held to 44 yards in the first half, scored three touchdowns in the second half from 9, 16 and 5 yards out respectively. The senior tailback had 25 carries for 102 yards on the night.
 
Cantwell found Darren Carter in the corner of the end zone on a fade route late in the third quarter. The sophomore quarterback posted his best collegiate game thus far, 10-of-14 passing, for 180 yards with two touchdowns while rushing the ball eight times for 24 yards.

DSC’s final score culminated a 15-play, 78-yard drive spanning over seven minutes. Kaleo Nawahine completed three passes and rushed for 10 yards, including scoring from five yards out.
 
Skyler Fullmer had a career day in making his first start of the year as middle linebacker. He posted 13 tackles (three solo) and one tackle-for-loss. Cache Morgan added nine tackles. Nick Porrazzo, Jake Duncan and Daniel Moffett each added seven tackles.

The Red Storm returns to action next Saturday north of the 49th parallel in Burnaby, British Columbia, Canada against the Clan of Simon Fraser. Kickoff from Terry Fox Field is set for 3 p.m.
