Besides frogs, what are in those Zion Canyons? Dixie Forum on Zion’s wildlife

ST. GEORGE – Dixie State College’s weekly “Dixie Forum: A Window on the World” will introduce you to the wild inhabitants of the canyons inside Zion National Park, as presented by local canyoneer Tom Jones, this coming Tuesday, Oct. 4 at noon.

The forum will in the Dunford Auditorium of the Browning Resource Center on the DSC campus. Admission is free.

Jones will share and discuss the different species of wildlife he has found, in his presentation entitled “Besides Frogs, What are in those Canyons Anyway?” He has served as a guide at Zion National Park and taught canyoneering courses with Zion Adventure Company since 2007. Jones has also authored a book, “Zion: Canyoneering,” which serves as a guide to 49 adventures in and around Zion National Park, and is a regular contributor on the canyoneering website.

The Dixie Forum will continue each Tuesday through the rest of the fall semester. Upcoming guest speakers include Chris Perish of the Peregrine Fund, who will share his findings on the “Current Status of the Reintroduced Condor in Southern Utah and Northern Arizona” on Oct. 11; and a presentation by the current Utah Poet Laureate David Lee on Oct. 18.
