Santa Clara woman lifeflighted after crashing car into Shivwits Bridge

IVINS – A Santa Clara woman was lifeflighted after crashing her car into the Shivwits Bridge.

Sgt. Kurt Bowen with the Washington County Sheriff’s Office said the driver was heading southwest on Old Highway 91 towards Mesquite when she veered off the road and into the Shivwits Bridge. He said the cause of the single-vehicle accident is under investigation.

Bowen said the driver was extricated from her vehicle and lifeflight was called in to transport her to Dixie Regional Medical Center.

“It’s a precautionary thing to do,” he said.

He said she was conscious and communicating with the responders.

Bowen said he has not been out to see the scene himself, but he is not aware of any significant damage to the bridge.

“UDOT is coming out to check it,” he said. “It’s a pretty solid bridge, it survived the floods.”

The injured driver’s name has not been released at this time.

No road closures are reported.
