ZION NATIONAL PARK – The Herbs Fire which began Saturday afternoon continues to burn, with current estimate in size at 260 acres.
It is being fueled by Oak brush, pinyon-juniper and mixed conifer.
The fire is now identified as lightning caused and Fire Information Officer David Eaker said it is 45 percent contained, with full containment expected late this evening or tomorrow.

The scattered structures outside of the park which may have been threatened are in no immediate danger. Eaker said that firefighters made good progress yesterday in containing the fire to the mesa top in the park and preventing it from spreading to private lands to the north.
“Smoke from the fire is still visible from the Interstate 15 corridor and may be as well over the next few days until it is out,” said Eaker.
