Flyers soar past Utes

For the second straight game, the Dixie Flyers (3-0) defense held the opposing team scoreless until the final minute of the game. This week, Uintah got a field goal with 17 seconds left. The good news for the Flyers was they were winning by 49 points. Dixie cruised to a 49-3 win with a huge second quarter.

Star quarterback Blake Barney threw for 114 yards and two touchdowns to two different receivers. Kyle Hansen got the Flyers in the end zone first on a 31-yard strike from Barney with just under 5 minutes to play in the first quarter.

Then the second quarter started, on the first play of the quarter, running back Justin Cummings took the first of his two touchdowns to the house. Not even 30 seconds later Barney found Drew Batchelor to push the lead to 21-0. Taylor Berry was the next Flyer to score — it was his first touchdown of the season.

Cummings broke a 57-yard touchdown run for his second score of the game – Cummings finished the game with 95 rushing yards. The Flyer defense scored the last touchdown of the second quarter when Devin Brady took an interception to the house. The Flyers scored five touchdowns in the second quarter, outscoring the Utes 35-0.

Tanner Webster got the final touchdown of the game mid-way thru the third on a short running play.

Dixie takes their undefeated record into “The Rivalry” at Pine View next week.
