ST. GEORGE – The Desert Hills Thunder dominated the Moapa Valley Pirates 24-0 Friday night.

Last week, the Pirates were playing in an NFL stadium in Arizona, against a team that was ranked in the top 100 in the nation, and they won. This week the Pirates were on the road again in St. George.

Desert Hills ran all over the Pirates defense that looked great last week on national television. Thunder’s Mike Needham led the way with 171 yards rushing and 40 yards receiving. Needham added two touchdowns for the Thunder; the first was a 37-yard reception and the second a 12-yard run.

The Thunder defense has only allowed 14 points through two weeks – that leads Region 9 in points allowed. Peter Brown had an interception and a fumble recovery. The Thunder defense forced four sacks and repeatedly had the Moapa Valley quarterback scrambling not to get hit.

Deseret Hills, the No. 1 ranked defensive team in Region 9, takes on North Sanpete Friday night, Sept. 2.
