WASHINGTON COUNTY – Officers arrested a man residing in Hurricane on four 3rd-degree felony charges after investigating a shooting by Lower Sand Cove Reservoir yesterday.

Det. Nate Abbott with the Washington County Sheriff’s Office said the officers received a call that someone was shooting in the area, which is located between Gunlock and Veyo. Officers spoke to a group of individuals in that area and discovered that one of the men was in possession of several weapons.

“Somebody had attempted to remove the serial number off [one of the weapons],” Abbott said.

Abbott said the man was also in possession of false identification. Officers worked with immigrations and customs and determined the man was in the U.S. illegally.

The man was booked into the Purgatory Correctional Facility on the four felonies and a misdemeanor count for falsifying government records and one misdemeanor count of altering a serial number.

* Persons accused are presumed innocent unless found guilty in a court of law.

If this area (So. Utah) was’nt considered a sanctuary region, we would not have this type of criminal element thriving here.. This goes hand in hand with the various marijuana grows popping up all over this area. And don’t forget the numurous i.d. fraud cases piling up at the courthouse. As long as the illegal immigrant population is welcomed and tolerated here, we will continue to see this type of criminal activity flourish in So. Utah.

Hey, Ron. Take a look at the mug shots on this news site and count the number of Anglo names vs. Hispanic names., And then tell me you really think “we would not have this type of criminal element thriving here” if we got rid of all the Hispanics. Looks to me like we wouldn’t see much of a difference. Let’s don’t pretend that the Anglos here are all God-fearing, law-abiding Mormons.

I agree with Ron #1 on this one. I see the arrest reports and the numerous illegals listed there. And why bring the Mormons into it? Jeeze, Ron C. maybe they are Catholic, you don’t know.

Ron C., first of all I never advocated to “get rid of all the Hispanics”. Second, I don’t “pretend that the Anglos here” are “all God-fearing, law abiding Mormons”. But if you look at the Washington County Sheriffs booking page you will see that the majority of those arrested for the mentioned violations are illegal immigrants. Granted there are many legal law abiding hispanics residing here and I don’t have an issue with the majority of them. It is the illegal ones that do not care about our rule of law and respecting our laws. The state of Utah is known for its acceptance of illegal immigrants and the many business’ that employ them at less than minimum wages…that is why the illgal immigrant community continues to flourish here. To be fair, I could also call your attention to the numerous anglos arressted for DUI, child molestation, drug trafficking and use, thefts, and so on. All one has to do is look at the Washington County Sheriffs booking page and see for themselves the diversity of those arrests. When the state of Utah stops giving sanctuary to illegals….then and only then will you see a drop in those particular crimes.
