CEDAR CITY – A swimmer at the Lake at the Hills failed to resurface today, and the Cedar City Police Department was called to respond around 1:30 p.m.

Emergency personnel converged on the Lake at the Hills after receiving a report that Clayton Price, 38, of Cedar City, had not resurfaced while swimming with family.  First-responders learned from a witness that Price had been swimming with his 8-year-old daughter in the designated swim area when he pushed her away and dipped below the water.  The child was snatched from the water unharmed but Price never resurfaced.

Local area emergency personnel arrived and quickly began searching for Price without success.  Recovery efforts were later turned over to a dive team from the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.

Around 5 p.m. divers discovered Price’s body roughly 40 feet from where he was last seen swimming.  This is the first drowning incident at the Lake at the Hills since it opened in March 2011.

Swimming at the Lake at the Hills is permitted within the designated swim area; however, water activities are at the risk of those participating given there no lifeguards.
