Southern Utah Home Improvement Expo Promises New Exhibits in September

SOUTHERN UTAH– Get ready for the eighth annual Southern Utah Home Improvement Expo coming to The Dixie Center in St. George on Sept. 9 and 10. The Dixie Center is located at 1835 S. Convention Center Drive.  Entrance fee is $5, children 12-years-old and younger are free.

This year’s expo promises new exhibits including: Ask the contractor, a gardening center, and a “coolest kitchen giveaway.”

Even though there are new exhibits this year, there will also be many returning features such as the Grocery Guru, local landscapers and builders, and energy saving tips and materials.

The Southern Utah Home Builders Association members will be managing the “Ask the Contractor” booth where attendants of the expo can ask a professional about any question pertaining to home improvement.

“If [the professional] doesn’t know the answer, they will get in contact with someone who does,” Event Assistant Barbara Button said. “They will answer questions from simple things, like how to fix a leaky faucet, to installing something like a rain gutter.”

Austin Anderson, the second vice president of the SUHBA, said not only will the SUHBA members be answering questions and sharing expertise, but they will also use the expo as an opportunity to meet members of the community and recruit more people to join the association.

“We invite every contractor and anyone involved in home and commercial construction to get involved to promote the industry,” Anderson said. “There are many benefits to being a member [of the SUHBA]. We are a watchdog for city impact fees and anything pertaining to the good of the community.”

There will be an energy efficiency center with hints on how to save money on utility bills. Also the green building sources will be there with tips to conserve water.

The Grocery Guru will share his techniques on how to save money on gas, groceries and clothing, and door prizes will be given away every hour to those attending the expo.  The grand prize this year is a 10-foot by 12-foot installed awning donated by The Awning Company that represents a total value of $3,000.

The “coolest kitchen giveaway” is also valued at $3,000 and is a new event at this year’s expo. Attendants can submit a picture of his or her kitchen and 250 words or less explaining why he or she deserves the coolest kitchen prize.  On the last day of the expo, a winner will be rewarded with the kitchen makeover.
