ST. GEORGE – The St. George city council elections have just gotten underway, and one candidate is already noticing what one incumbent calls “par for the course.”

J. Bryan Dial filed an online police report with the St. George Police Department yesterday after noticing that one of his candidate signs had been stolen.

“I initially thought maybe it had blown down, but when I looked closer I saw that the zip ties were cut,” Dial said in a press release sent to St. George News.

Dial said he doesn’t believe any of the incumbents took down the sign, but “unless someone comes forward to confess, we’ll never really know who did it.”

“… I hope everyone comes out against this kind of tactic, [which] is below anyone hoping to represent St. George,” Dial said.

Sgt. Rick Goulding with the St George Police Department said this kind of act is actually uncommon.

“I have not [run] into this before,” Goulding said. “This is not something that is common in St. George elections.”

Incumbent Jon Pike said he hasn’t noticed anything vindictive in this election or prior elections.

“I think I had a couple mustaches drawn on my campaign signs last time, but that’s kind of par for the course and doesn’t bother me,” Pike said.

Candidates Tara Dunn and DR Wall said they also have not had any issues in this election.

“I only know of the one [Dial] had stolen yesterday,” Dunn said. “I would hope that most people respect the democratic process and that this is an isolated incident. I would also hope that we can respect each other as human beings and community members and not steal or vandalize each other’s stuff.”

Sam Laub said this is the second time he has run for election and has never had a sign stolen, but he did have someone put a cat flyer on his sign this year.

“Overall, never really had much problem with them,” Laub said.

In his report he filed with the police department, Dial said the posts and zip ties remained at the location. Dial said he searched for the sign nearby, but did not find it.

So is DR Wall a real doctor or is the poster just set up to make it appear that he “may ” be a doctor? Just wondering.

If anything Gloria Shakespeare’s signs need to be stolen, they are EVERYWHERE!! Just hope citizens vote for fresh blood and change in the council this year cause things are way stagnant up in that office which reflects the city as well. I’m voting for the first time this Fall on the local level!
