ST. GEORGE – On Aug. 27, 2011, a charity car wash will be held in the Fargo’s Drive-Thru parking lot to benefit recent heart transplant recipient, 12 year old Abby Doman.
Doman made local and state headlines in late May when she collapsed at school and was soon discovered to have a critical condition that could only be remedied by giving the girl a brand new heart. Prayers for Doman’s recovery were answered when a new heart arrived in July and the subsequent transplant surgery proved successful.
While Doman was in waiting on the heart transplant, individuals and companies came to together to hold many different fundraisers in order to help the Doman family offset the costs of mounting medical bills. Among the people who become involved were Jeff Fargo, owner of Fargo’s, and Trevor Milton, chief executive officer of Upillar.com.
“We’re helping out a member of the community,” Fargo said. “We take care of our own.”
Since mid-July, Fargo’s has offered “Team Doman” shirts for $10. All proceeds go directly to the Doman family.
Fargo has also gone to different businesses in the community for donations and aid, including Milton’s Upillar.
Upillar is an online classified listing site that allows sellers to list their items for free. According to Milton, it also provides superior search capabilities that allow a potential buyer to narrow down a search for an item and find exactly what he or she is looking for.
Aside from general classified ads, Upillar offers listings for autos, jobs, and real estate, and even online dating. Upcoming features include a video section through which users can market themselves to potential sponsors by displaying their talents online without the excessive clutter found on other web-based video services.
Upillar also prides itself on being a very family friendly site. Sexual and offensive content of any kind on the site is strictly prohibited and heavily filtered.
Like many other businesses and services, Upillar came about because Milton saw a potential need that wasn’t being met.
“Upillar started as a free automotive classified site,” Milton said.
Milton said that, while he worked for ADT Security, he would buy and sell cars on the side. Listing and selling the autos on eBay Inc. and other online sites proved to be more trouble and expense than it was worth. Thus Upillar was born.
As Upillar grew and expanded its services, it took off after Milton was interviewed on the nationally syndicated Glenn Beck Program in early 2010.
For some people, an association with someone of Beck’s mixed reputation may be thought to have its potential drawbacks, but that hasn’t been the case for Upillar at all.
“Upillar has gone viral ever since,” Milton said.
When asked how much an honest reputation was worth in business, Milton replied that people should be able to count on the reputation that an individual or business strives to maintain.
“Image is everything,” Milton said.
He added that people won’t respect someone if they are misled, and that honesty and a good reputation also stem from the top down.
“It goes down to the core of who works for you,” he said.
“I have a very close relationship and friendship with everyone that works for me,” Milton said, and added that he has the utmost trust in the people he employs.
“He’s a very sharp guy,” Fargo said, speaking of his friend Milton.
Milton realized that some people don’t even know that Upillar is headquartered in St. George, and has since begun to have the company take more of an active role in the community. A way to achieve this was provided by Fargo, when he came to Milton and told him about Abby Doman and told him to become involved, thus becoming one of the charity car wash’s sponsors.
Currently, and at the upcoming car wash, Fargo’s is selling temporary Fargo’s tattoos and Upillar wristbands for $1. There are $5 tickets for the carwash as well, with the offer of a free website upgrade on Upillar.com detailed on the back. General donations are also welcomed.
The Charity Car Wash for Abby Doman will be held at the Fargo’s parking lot on Aug. 27, 2011 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Fargo’s itself can be found at 2235 Santa Clara Drive, Santa Clara, Utah.
