LA VERKIN – A 19-year-old Springdale man was arrested by La Verkin police on charges of two counts of sexual exploitation of a minor, one count of harmful materials to a minor and one count of sodomy of a 14-year-old.
Detective Travis Romney said Keith Lane Peterson allegedly had a relationship with a 14-year-old girl last year, and is accused of participating in oral sex with the teen. In June of this year, the man allegedly began “sexting” the teen by sending a sexual photo of himself and receiving two photos of the now 15-year-old girl.
Peterson is being charged with two 2nd degree felonies and two 3rd degree felonies. He had not posted bail at the time of this story.

Can someone please explain why there are so many child molesters in the Southern Utah area? It seems like there is always at least one arrested per week, which is one too many, in my opinion. Is there something in the water here in So. Utah? Maybe there should be a special “victims crime task force ” created to devote strictly to the pursuit and apprehension of these perverted and pathetic sick individuals. This is just beyond me…
I wouldn’t say that its in the water, so much as that its a product of the repressive society which has established its near immovable tap root here.
The mainstream theocracy doesn’t allow for divorce, coerces folks to get married early and pump out babies lest they be labeled “a menace to society”, coerces folks to abstain from even the slightest bit of “sinful” recreation to be found in alcohol or skipping a day at church lest they be sent to a make believe “lower level” of heaven or “outer darkness”.
Because there are no normal releases, men beat their wives and diddle young kids/girls; the inside of the majority of homes are disgustingly unkempt; housewife, teenage, and homosexual suicide rates are staggeringly beyond the national average; and teenage delinquency and drug use runs rampant while parents call the police to discipline their children or rely on things like the “southwest behavioral health center” to be the parents. All of this occurs while the folks of the ward peek out of windows like Gladys Kravitz from “Bewitched”, white wash their own problems, and show up to church looking prim and proper, yet can be found gossiping behind backs, swapping spouses in sex parties, and keeping up with the Joneses.
Not a Mormon~ you just hit the nail smack dab on the head with such force!!!!! You said it so much better than anyone else could describe what goes on in that aweful county! I lived there for 14 terrible years, and I will NEVER RETURN because of what you just described!!! Thank you for speaking up and being so blunt about the problems in Washington County!!!
