WASHINGTON D.C. – A new poll by Public Policy Polling shows that Rep. Jim Matheson would just barely defeat Sen. Orrin Hatch 45-44 percent if Matheson were to run against him in the Senate elections, and would defeat Rep. Jason Chaffetz by 47-42 percent.
Utah Policy.com, who said Hatch has been more to the right than ever since Sen. Bob Bennett was eliminated at the 2010 GOP convention, reported the poll. However, Utah Policy reports that Hatch’s approval rating is still below 50 percent.
When asked whether he would consider a run for Senate, Matheson’s office told St. George News, “He is keeping all his options open but not making any announcements at this time.”
