Free Breakfast, Lunch Offered at Some Local Schools Through Summer

WASHINGTON COUNTY – Many local elementary schools will be offering free breakfast and lunch for kids throughout the summer. The meals are free and are offered to anyone under the age of 18, even children not yet in school.

According to the website, www.uah.org, the Summer Food Service Program works to fill the nutrition gap between school years for low-income students who rely on free and reduced price breakfast and lunch programs.

Although the meals are offered at local schools, they are not paid for by the school district. However, Utahns Against Hunger is sponsored by the Utah Department of Education, as well as other supporters and many voluntary donations.

Not each school will have the program, and many have only a half hour each day, certain days of the week that the meals are offered. For a list of schools and times, visit http://www.schools.utah.gov/cnp/Summer-Food-Service-Program/Map.aspx.
