HURRICANE – Sand Hollow Road will be closed to all traffic except for authorized vehicles and personnel beginning at 5 a.m. on Saturday, May 7, for the Ironman Competition.
Hurricane Police Chief Lynn Excell said Sand Hollow Road will be shut down at the SR-9 turnoff and remain off-limits to bicyclists and personal vehicles. Credentialed individuals, Ironman employees and the scheduled complimentary shuttle buses will still have access to Sand Hollow Road, however.
“If you want to be a spectator at the swim start area at Sand Hollow Reservoir you will need to take advantage of the free shuttle bus service,” said Excell. “All traffic, including bicyclists, will not be allowed on Sand Hollow Road after the 5 a.m. closure.”
Complimentary shuttle bus service will be available from 5:30 a.m. to 6:30 a.m. at the Washington County Fairgrounds located on the south side of SR-9 at 5300 W. in Hurricane. Spectators are encouraged to park their vehicles at the fairgrounds and take advantage of this service. Buses will make return trips from the reservoir area to the fairgrounds from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.
Sand Hollow Road will reopen to public use shortly after the shuttle buses finish transporting spectators from the reservoir site.
