Brian Head to Host Two-Person Rail Jam

Brian Head Resort Rail Jam Saturday April 23, 2011, during 2-day Easter Carnival

Open to skiers and snowboarders of all ages competing for a $500 first-place prize! 

Brian Head, UT – Brian Head Resort in southern Utah will host a two-person rail jam event open to both skiers and snowboarders at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 23, 2011. Participants will compete for a $500 cash first prize in the open division, along with prizes for second and third place. The event will also include a women’s division and a 15-and-under division, each with a prize for first place.

Event registration begins at 8:30 a.m. in the Giant Steps Lodge, 329 S. Highway 143, Brian Head, UT 84719. The rail jam entrance fee in all divisions is $30 per-team for those pre-registering and $40 on the day of the event. All participants must either purchase a lift ticket or have a season pass for Brain Head, which is located about three hours north of Las Vegas and four hours south of Salt Lake City. “We will have a fun setup, different than any we’ve ever done,” said Austen Armstrong, Brian Head’s Park Director. Armstrong and his park crew, including “diggers” Chris Pickering, Scott Hunter, and Vance Rowley, will sculpt the course near the Giant Steps chairlift.

“The terrain park staff at Brian Head is excited to be hosting this grand finale to what has been a tremendous season here in southern Utah, where we have piled up over 30 feet of snow. It will be an amazing atmosphere and an exciting show for spectators.”

The rail jam is part of Brian Head Resort’s Easter Carnival, a bevy of free, fun activities with something for everyone in the family to enjoy during the resort’s final weekend of the winter season, Saturday and Easter Sunday, April 23-24, 2011. Free activities include an Easter eggs hunt, “Cardboard Sled Race,” and game booths with a fish pond, face painting and coloring contest. These events will be held at both Navajo and Giant Steps Lodge at Brian Head. The weekend also includes a “King of the Mountain – Beer/Root Beer Mug Race,” with a nominal entry fee.
