ST. GEORGE — The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is developing an Environmental Assessment (EA) for a Travel Management Plan (TMP) under the National Environmental Policy Act to analyze motorized/mechanized vehicle use and non-motorized use on designated routes in the Colorado City,
Littlefield and St. George Basin route designation sub-regions within public lands administered by the Arizona Strip Field Office.

The Arizona Strip Field Office (ASFO) Resource Management Plan (RMP) was completed in 2008. Specific route designation decisions for most of the travel routes on the ASFO were deferred to a later date, providing the BLM
adequate time to create an accurate inventory of all the routes on BLM-administered lands in the ASFO. The inventory of travel routes has now been completed, improving the accuracy in the TMP/EA as the record helps
define routes designated open for motorized/mechanized use and non-motorized use, closed to motorized/mechanized use, or available for administrative use only.

BLM policy requires that route designations should be completed within five years of the Record of Decision of the ASFO RMP, or no later than January 29, 2013. The goals of the ASFO TMP are to: provide and improve sustainable access for public needs and experiences; protect natural and cultural resources and the settings in which they occur; promote the safety of public land users; and minimize conflicts between the various users of
public lands.

Public participation is crucial for the success of a comprehensive travel network in order for the BLM to obtain the most accurate and current information on specific routes. Public input also provides BLM with various
alternatives for access and use of areas and routes for specific purposes, as well as obtain current information about resources that need to be protected from access-related impacts. The purpose of the TMP EA scoping
meetings and public comment process is to enable all interested parties have an opportunity to understand the route designation decisions about to be made and have an opportunity to participate in the process.

Public scoping meetings to initiate the TMP/EA process will be held at the following locations:

April 18, 2011 4-7 pm    Beaver Dam, Arizona; Beaver Dam Fire Station, 630 N. Highway 91
April 19, 2011 5:30-7 pm Kaibab Village, Arizona; Kaibab Village Community Building
April 20, 2011 4-7 pm Colorado City, Arizona; Mohave Com. College North Campus, Rm 103
April 21, 2011 4-7 pm St. George, Utah; Dixie Center, 1835 Convention Center Drive

*All meetings will be held between 4-7 pm local time, except for the Kaibab Village meeting which will be from 5:30 to 7 p.m. local time.
