HURRICANE – The Intermountain Hurricane Clinic and Instacare held its quarterly Health and Wellness Advocates Breakfast Thursday morning serving up green eggs and ham to keep in theme with Saint Patrick’s Day.

Representative Brad Last (R-Hurricane), was the keynote speaker and, after some formalities, the meeting began with some statistics about the new LifeFlight operations which are up and running in Washington County.

Last then spent the better part of the meeting discussing the controversial passing of HB477 and his subsequent reasons for his support of the bill.

Last spent the latter part of the allotted hour talking about his decision not to support the recent immigration legislation.

Last said he was surprised the bill passed, and since he knew he wasn’t going to vote for it, he left to catch a plane home.

“What makes our nation unique is that we are a nation of laws,” Last said. “If we allow (people to) break the law … with regards to immigration, we send the wrong message to people coming into the country to start with.”

The meeting wrapped up with issues including: Zion State Parks custom license plates available to the public, health care reform, and insurance related issues.

Terri Draper, Communications Director for Intermountain Healthcare, said the purpose of the meeting was to, “Raise awareness of health care issues.”

It is well worth noting that the predominant theme of this meeting was in fact HB 477 indicating that what is presently in most poor health is the relationship between the State Legislature and its constituency with regards to HB 477.

Last asked, “Where are people getting information about this bill?” and seemed intent that much of its opposition was either uninformed public, or disgruntled journalists.

Last noted that the effective date of the bill is July 1, which allows ample time for review and revision.  He said he welcomes input from his constituency and remains intent on handling the process with integrity.

Re name St. George to San Jorge. Thanks to our criminal government the ILLEGALS can now live in Utah and take more jobs away from us. I was told that 15 families with extensive gang involvements moved from the Beaver Dam area to St. George because of this new law. I can only imagine how many will come from the Phoenix area. Shame on our REPUBlCAN government! Shame on Utah and shame on the church for supporting this.
