ST. GEORGE – Dixie State College’s weekly noontime “Dixie Forum: A Window on the World” forum will feature a discussion on “The Literary Heritage of African-Americans” by Reverend France A. Davis of Salt Lake City’s Calvary Mission Baptist Church on Tuesday, March 8th, at 12 noon, in the Dunford Auditorium of the Browning Resource Center on the DSC campus. Admission is free for all community members, DSC students, and faculty and staff.

Pastor Davis, who has served as pastor of the Calvary Mission Baptist Church since 1974, has been a frequent Dixie Forum contributor for a number of years and his words are always inspirational. An author of several books, including Light in the Midst of Zion: A History of Black Baptists in Utah, Pastor Davis holds degrees from the University of California-Berkeley, Westminster College, the University of Utah and Northwest Nazarene University. In addition, he teaches Communication and Ethnic Studies Courses at the University of Utah.

Pastor Davis has received numerous honors for his service, including the Utah State University Community Service Award, as well as honorary degrees from the University of Utah, Salt Lake Community College, and DSC Pastor Davis serves on a number of community and national boards, including the Salt Lake City NAACP and the Salt Lake Housing Authority. He also serves as a voting member of the Utah State Board of Regents, a position he has held since 2008.

Following DSC’s Spring Break (March 14-19), the Dixie Forum series will continue each Tuesday at 12 noon through the rest of the spring semester. Upcoming guest speakers include former DSC adjunct faculty member Bill McMurrin, who will share his presentation entitled “Virgin River Land Preservation Association: Why Does it Matter?” on March 22nd.
