ST. GEORGE – An explosion and loud booms heard this evening throughout St. George and Washington were caused by a home fire behind Pineview Stadium 10.

Battalion Chief Ken Guard said the home of Palledin Balloon Excursions caught fire in the garage, destroying the garage completely and damaging parts of the home and the adjacent home, as well. One individual was home at the time and there were no injuries.

Guard said when he arrived on scene, the fire was mostly exterior and his greatest  concern was the high winds would blow the fire to the north and destroy the adjacent home. However, firefighters were able to contain the fire before it spread further.

Guard said the homeowners had four propane cylinders in the driveway and two of them exploded and have not been found yet. There were five more cylinders in a trailer in he driveway that did not catch fire.

Fire Chief Kevin Taylor said the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
