ST. GEORGE – Several walkways and roads in the heart of the Dixie State College campus will be closed for the next 15 months in order to accommodate construction of the new Jeffrey R. Holland Centennial Commons Building.
Starting this week, Jacobsen Construction will begin work on the new building, which will be erected south of the Gardner Student Center on the Encampment Mall. Construction for the Jeffrey R. Holland Centennial Commons Building is scheduled to be completed in June of 2012.
Road and sidewalk closures include 300 South at the Old Gymnasium to the intersection of 800 East, which will be closed at the Burns Arena. The south and west parking lots at the Gardner Student Center will also be closed, and pedestrian access will be limited in the vicinity of the construction zone.
Visitor parking has also been relocated to the first two rows of parking stalls in front of the Old Gymnasium/Student Recreation Center on 700 East and 300 South.
In addition, construction crews will be conducting high voltage trenching beginning at 1000 East and 300 South, continuing west past the DSC Udvar-Hazy School of Business Building through the Encampment Mall to 700 East and 300 South. Sidewalks and drive approaches will be closed as work moves through that area.
DSC officials urge students, faculty and staff, and campus visitors to be aware of the construction areas and to use alternate routes when crossing campus.
