ST. GEORGE – When going to see this year’s Parade of Homes, attendees will see 26 of “The best of the best,” according to Rick Richardson of Richardson Homes.

The annual Parade of Homes begins tomorrow and runs until Feb. 27. Riley Richardson said his company has two homes in the parade this year that focus on “approachable homes.”

“We are showcasing what you can do while maintaining value in your home without trying to produce hand-carved African mahogany widgets,” he said with a laugh.

He said Richardson Homes has been in the Parade of Homes for 11 years, and this year is a lot like the first year they were in it.

“(This year) is a more value-oriented type of Parade than it’s been in the past. The last few years, we were all throwing all these magnificent things into one home,” he said. “As we went through the years it got bigger and bigger and bigger. A lot of things have come back down.”

This year, the homes are more obtainable, Rick Richardson said. The two homes he has this year, numbers 10 and 13, were sold before they completed construction.

Rick Richardson said number 13 is a larger home valued under $330,000 with a view of the river.

“When you walk in, the overall appearance speaks volumes for the value it is,” he said. “It’s a really nice looking home.”

“It’s proof that we can deliver a home that they can’t afford for a price they can,” Riley Richardson added.

For the first time in Parade history, a food vendor will be cooking on site this year, he said. Irmita’s authentic Mexican food, which won Best of State last year, will be outside the home selling breakfast and lunch

The Richardson’s second Parade home is slightly smaller, but with more upgrades.

Rick Richardson described it as “livable luxury.”

“It has all the upgrades,” he said. “Granite or stone throughout, a nicer appliance package, tile showers with deco trim.”

He said this home also has a piece of artwork built into the home just above the fireplace that attendees won’t want to miss.

The Richardson’s said home trends this year are moving away from theater rooms and to multi media rooms where computers are running through homeowner’s televisions. Homeowners are also asking for more Green technology, something they say is becoming a standard these days.

Tickets for the Parade of Homes can be purchased online at www.paradehomes.com or at Lin’s or the Red Cliffs Mall. Tickets are $12.50 a person.
