WBB: #13 Dixie State Outgun Academy of Art 103-57

ST. GEORGE – Five Dixie State players scored in double figures to lead the #13 Red Storm to a 103-57 win over Academy of Art University on Saturday night in the Burns Arena.

After missing her first shot, Breann Hill (Harrisburg, PA/McDevitt) didn’t miss the rest of the game, finishing 10-11 from the field and 8-8 from the free-throw line, scoring a career high 32 points in just 24 minutes.

Trailing 14-8 with 15:26 remaining in the first half, Dixie State coach Angie Kristensen called a timeout to try and reorganize the troops.

Out of the timeout, Dixie State (18-2. 8-1 PWC) went on a 38-12 run to end the half and take a 52-26 lead into halftime.

With 16:06 remaining in the second half, Shanae Vaifanua (Hurricane. UT/Hurricane) picked Alisa Griggs pass and collect the 108th steal of her career and set a DSC record. She passed Tanya Clark who held the record with 107.

Rounding out the double-digit scorers for the Red Storm, Johnna Brown (Las Vegas, NV/Centennial High School) did not disappoint by adding 22 points and 8 rebounds. Sheila Adams (Layton, UT/Layton) add 14 points of her own and Erica Carlson (Tucson, AZ/Canyon del Oro HS) had another impressive performance with 10 points, nine rebounds and six blocked shots. Gabriella Rodriguez (West Jordan, UT/West Jordan) chipped in 11 points.

Dixie State shot a season best 57.4 percent from the field and connected on a season high 11 three-pointers. The most impressive stat of the game has to be the 22-23 from the free throw line.

For Academy of Art (7-14, 5-7 PWC) they had two bright spots, Verity Peets scored 21 points and Nicole DeRosier added 14 points.

The Urban Knights managed to shot only 31.3 percent from the field and committed 19 turnovers that led to 30 Red Storm points.

Dixie State will continue their five game home stand with Hawaii Hilo on Thursday night and Hawaii Pacific on Saturday night. The Saturday night game is slated to be senior night for the Red Storm.
