ST. GEORGE, UT- Leading only 37-33 at the half, the #13 Dixie State College women’s basketball team outscored Dominican (CA) University 50-33 in the second half to thrust themselves to an 87-66 victory inside the Burns Arena.
Dixie State (17-2, 7-1 PWC) led 45-40 with 16:34 left in the 2nd half. Veronica Siqueiros (Phoenix, AZ/Trevor G Brown) and Sheila Adams (Layton, UT/Layton) hit back-to-back three pointers in 13-1 Red Storm run to build the lead to 17 points. DSC would manage to build a 25-point lead near the end of regulation.
The Red Storm shot 52.6 percent from the field for the game and a blistering 57.1 percent in the second half. Making nine three-pointers and adding a 40-29 rebound advantage to lead them to victory.
The Penguins (5-16, 3-8) engaged the Red Storm in the first half with both team shooting 14-29 from the field. The only difference was DSC made three 3-pointers and a free throw to give them the advantage at the break.
Dominican managed to shoot a respectable 43.8 percent from the floor. Leading the way for DUC was Tammy Brawner with a game-high 20 points. Raquel Gomes added 12 points in the loss.
Once again Breann Hill (Harrisburg, PA/McDevitt) who scored a team-high 18 points and grabbed 8 rebounds, Adams added 13 points and Johnna Brown (Las Vegas, NV/Centennial High School) chipped in 12 points and 8 rebounds to lead the Red Storm.
The Red Storm is home again on Saturday night when the Urban Knights of Academy of Art come to the Burns Arena. Tip-off is slated for 5:30 PM.
NOTES: With her lone steal on the night Junior Shanae Vaifanua (Hurricane. UT/Hurricane) tied Tanya Clark (Beaumont. CA/Beaumont) for the most steals in a career with 107.
