ST. GEORGE – As part of its goal to serve as a role model for the community, the Mrs. Utah United States organization is donating $100 to the Washington County Children’s Justice Center and the D.O.V.E. Center for each contestant that signs up for this year’s pageant.

Mrs. Utah United States Director Jen Watkins said the purpose of the pageant is not to focus on women’s outer beauty, but to give women the opportunity to serve as role models for their family and community by promoting their personal platform.

Watkins chose the Washington County CJC and the D.O.V.E. Center as the organization’s platform for this year as a way to give back to the local community where the pageant will be held this year.

The pageant is being held in St. George at Dixie State College on May 14 and is being directed and run by Sentric Media. Applications are being accepted until April 15 for married women, 21 and older, who reside in Utah.

Watkins said she is excited about the pageant this year, not only because it is being held in sunny Southern Utah, but because the contestants singing up thus far have “so much passion for their lives, their families and their platforms. We have truly incredibly women coming forward and each one has a unique story,” she said.

The Mrs. Utah United States pageant is judged in 4 different categories. Private Interview, Swimsuit, Evening Gown, and additional points added for the on–stage question for the top 10 finalists.

“The judges understand that being a wife is already a tremendous role in your home and community,” according to the website. “They will be looking for a woman who demonstrates dedication in her personal life and has a desire to improve her community through her personal platform. As each woman and platform is unique, the judges will look at who implements those qualities most effectively.”
