Witness complaint leads to investigation of public lewdness in Hurricane

HURRICANE – Two people were cited with lewdness after a witness complained the couple was involved in a sexual act on the side of a residential street in Hurricane just after midnight on Thursday.

One of the two was also arrested on an outstanding warrant in addition to the class-B misdemeanor count of lewdness/public sex act and one count of public intoxication, a class-C misdemeanor.

A 31-year-old female from Toquerville was booked into the Washington County Jail on $1,114 bail. The male suspect was released after being cited with one count of lewdness/public sex act and a charge of public intoxication.

The incident was reported as “lewdness in progress” from a witness who said she drove past a couple engaged in a sex act on the sidewalk in the neighborhood of 800 N. 300 E. in Hurricane.

Officers responded to the scene and initially were unable to locate the suspects. However, the witness provided a description of the couple and the direction they went before officers arrived. The pair was arrested at a residence in the area, where both denied the allegations reported by the witness to police.
