Snow Canyon girls post victory in quarterfinals

ST. GEORGE – The Snow Canyon Warriors girls’ soccer team appeared to be holding on for dear life during the first half of Thursdays 4A quarterfinal match against visiting Sky View.

The Bobcats controlled the play for just about all of the first half, keeping the ball in the Snow Canyon end. The Warrior defenders kept them out of close range of the goal and goalie Megan Clark was never really tested.

The second half was a different story. The Warriors pushed the ball up the field early and on their first shot of the half, Callie Stewart made a beautiful shot to the opposite top corner of the goal for the only tally of the game.

The goal breathed life into Snow Canyon as they were able to win more loose balls and keep control of the second half, and come away with their second victory of this year’s playoffs.

The Warriors will next travel to Juan Diego High School to face Timpanogos who outlasted Bountiful 2-1 in double overtime. The semifinal game will be Tuesday, October 19 at 11 a.m.

Snow Canyon's Callie Stewart shoots against Sky View during their quarterfinal match Thursday. Stewart would score on this shot for the only goal of the game.
