President Robert F. Orton featured in the St. George Tabernacle Friday Night Fireside series

ST. GEORGE – President Robert F. Orton, the outgoing St. George Temple President, will be the guest speaker at the Friday Night Lecture series in the Tabernacle on Friday, October 15, at 7 p.m. This fireside is free. Handicap access is available in the rear of the building.

 

Orton commenced his service as President of the St. George Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on Nov.1, 2007.  From March 2001 to October 2007, he served as a member of the Second Quorum of the Seventy. His duties included Europe East Area Presidency member, Assistant Executive Director of the Audiovisual Department, Chairman of the Broadcast Operations Committee and a member of the Restoration and Cancellation of Blessings Committee. He has served in many other LDS Church positions, including Branch President, District President and Mission President in the Romania Bucharest Mission.

 

Orton earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Brigham Young University in 1961 and earned his Juris Doctorate in Law from the University of Utah in 1964. His professional career was a litigation attorney in Salt Lake City.  

 

Orton was born in Reno, Nev., and raised in Panguitch. He and his wife, Joy Eveline Dahlberg, were married in the Salt Lake Temple on 13 June 1963. They are parents of six children and currently have 20 grandchildren.
